Check out this prototype set of sliders and knobs for the iPad. Sadly, it’s just a prototype. But I think we’ll soon, perhaps even in 2015, start to see a return of physical controls in some devices and applications. Look first to bluetooth-based peripherals, then the return of vibrate/ring buttons on more cellphones, the use of informative haptic, non-visual feedback delivered via other wearables, etc. And don’t get me started on all-in-one dashboard touchscreens supplanting physical controls in automobiles. What could possibly go wrong, right?
