#IoT Survey Reveals automation industry Motivations, Expectations, Potential Inhibitors

A survey from last year by AutomationWorld identified the following motivations for IoT adoption by manufacturers, both for management of their own business, and as products/services for their customers:

  • Reduced downtime and improved service response times were most often cited as current drivers
  • Improvements in process and personnel productivity were identified as mid-term motivations.
  • The opportunity for business innovation as a potential IoT driver tended to fall more in the two to five year time- frame.
  • Ability to offer or consume new services is one of the potential (and further out) incremental benefits associated with industrial IoT adoption. For example, some suppliers already offer remote diagnostic capabilities
