Obama administration is making more news on the cybersecurity front, this time not so much with the technology angle, but rather with economic and other sanctions that can be used to beef up a response to cyberattacker. In other words, tools to go after not just the hackers themselves, but their sponsors.

The new executive order is a “framework” that is “designed to fill in a gap we have identified,” Daniel said. Cyberattackers could be “located in places where it’s difficult for our diplomatic .. tools to reach. [Or] a government is complicit in, or turning a blind eye to, the activity that is happening.”
